Introduction

What Velocity does, and how its main pieces fit together.

What is Velocity?

Velocity is an order management and sales enablement app for Shopify. It has two halves.

Administrators work in the Velocity app inside Shopify Admin, where they build teams, map territories, set commission rules, and review what each rep has earned.

Sales reps work in the Rep Portal, a separate application at velocity.shop. There they onboard customers and place orders on their behalf, seeing only the customers and orders they are responsible for. See About the Rep Portal.

The main pieces

Teams hold your reps in a hierarchy of levels. A team is the unit that owns a territory map and a set of commission rules, so most configuration starts by creating one. See Creating & Managing Teams.

Territories are postal codes assigned to reps on a team's map, from broad regions down to individual codes. Velocity matches each order's address against the map, so you never assign orders to reps by hand. Maps are built in Velocity and need no external service. See Assigning Team Territories.

Commission Programs define what earns commission and at what rate. A Program lists the Shopify collections and products it covers, then sets a rate for each level of the team. One team can run several Programs, which is how different product lines pay differently. See Creating Programs.

Ownerships and overrides handle the accounts that territories get wrong. An ownership assigns a customer, company, or location directly to a rep. An override replaces the commission calculation for one account entirely. See How Commission Is Assigned.

Vaulted payments let reps use a customer's saved payment methods at checkout, so card details do not have to be collected again for every order.

Getting started

The Velocity Setup Guide on the app's home page walks through the four steps in order: add your reps, create a team, set up a commission program, and calculate commission.
