Assignment Workflow

Editing a team's territories involves four main steps:

  1. Navigate to Commission Programs

  2. Build out the team structure

  3. Assign territories to reps

  4. Publish map changes to make them live

Team Structure

The steam structure can be edited from either the team page, or the territory editor. Reps must be added, starting from the highest ranking level. Reps manage anyone indented below their own level in the tree:

Assigning Territories

After the team structure is established, you can assign territory (postal codes) to reps.

First, it is important to understand a key point regarding territory:

Changes to the map do not affect commissions until they are published

Changes you make to the map are staged. Once you are satisfied with the changes, the changes must be published before commissions can be calculated on your rep's orders.

A single territory is equivalent to a single postal code on the map. These territories can only be assigned to reps at the bottom level of the hierarchy, since territories are inherited by the rep's manager.

Selecting Territories

To begin assigning territories, we need to first learn how to select them on the map.

Territories can be selected using various methods.

Direct selection

Territories can be directly selected on the map. Depending on the current zoom level, territories can be selected by state or by postal code. Selecting a state simply selects all of the postal codes that belong to that state.

For example, below we select Texas while zoomed out. Then, we can zoom in to select specific territories in Oklahoma.

To unselect a territory, simply click a territory that is already selected.

Custom selection

Draw a custom selection on the map by clicking and dragging a box while holding the Shift key.

Here, we can add to the previous selection.

To unselect, hold the Shift + Cmd keys (Shift + Windows key if on Windows) while dragging.

Search

Finally, we can simply search for the territories we would like to select. Territories can be searched by postal code, city, state, and sales rep level.

First, click the Search button or press Cmd + K (Windows Key + K if on Windows) to open the search dialog.

Assigning Territories to Rep

Once territories are selected, we can now assign them to a rep.

With the territories selected, click the Assign button and select the rep to assign the territories to.

Here, we can now assign the territories to Michael Bennet. After selecting territories, notice that the territories are now shaded in the color we selected when we added Michael to the rep hierarchy. Also, we can see that the territories are assigned to him when the mouse is hovered over the territory on the map.

Unassigning Territories from Rep

Similarly, we can unassign territories from a rep by selecting the territories first and selecting the reps we would like to unassign.

For example, we can undo the previous assignment to Michael Bennet by selecting him in the rep hierarchy and then clicking the Unassign button.

Publishing Updates

Once we are satisfied with the assignments we have made, we can publish the changes to affect commissions moving forward.
