A team is a group of reps arranged into levels. It is the unit that owns a territory map and a set of Commission Programs, so almost all commission configuration starts by creating one.
Create a team
Open Teams and select Add team to open the Add a Team modal.
Defining the levels
Enter a Team name, then define the team's levels with Add new level. Level 1 is the highest ranking level, holding your managers or directors, and each level below it reports to the one above.
Levels are permanent. You cannot add, remove, or rename a team's levels after selecting Save. Everything else about the team can be changed later, but the levels cannot, so decide on them before you save.
Two things are worth knowing before you commit:
Territories can only be assigned to reps at the bottom level. The levels above exist to be paid up the hierarchy, not to hold postal codes. See Assigning Team Territories.
Each level gets its own commission rate in every Commission Program on the team, so the number of levels is also the number of rates you will maintain per Program. See Creating Programs.
In the example above, the highest ranking reps sit at the Alpha reps level and manage the reps at Beta reps below them.
The team detail page
Selecting a team opens its detail page, which holds four things:
Status, where changes are made live with Publish or thrown away with Discard.
Territories, where Launch Editor opens the postal code map.
Team Structure, where you place reps into the levels you defined.
Commission Programs, where you set what earns commission and at what rate.
Placing reps in the structure
On the Team Structure card, select Edit to start changing the hierarchy, then use the links in the tree to add a rep at a level or add a report beneath an existing rep. Select Done editing when you have finished.
Reps must already exist before you can place them. See Managing Reps. Archived reps appear in the tree marked as archived and cannot be assigned territories.
Structure and territory changes are staged until you Publish them. A team with unpublished work shows a Pending changes badge in the Teams list, and commission keeps using the last published version until you publish.
Rename or delete a team
Both live in the actions at the top of the team detail page. Rename changes the team name only and affects nothing else. Delete removes the team along with its territory map, its structure, and its Commission Programs, so orders will no longer be commissioned through it.
