Velocity reads your product catalog from BigCommerce. Each product has one or more variants, one for each combination of options such as size or color, and each variant has its own SKU, price, and inventory. Products and variants live under Products in the navigation.
Product names, options, prices, and inventory are managed in BigCommerce. Velocity holds the settings that only Velocity uses: tax provider code, lot/serial requirements, Commission Programs, Catalogs, and integration links.
Products List
The Products page lists each product once. Each row shows the product's image and name, its SKU (or the number of variants, when it has more than one), its price or price range, inventory, and Commission Programs.
Search by name, filter by Availability (purchasable or not purchasable), Product Type (physical or digital), and Commission Program, and sort by name, date added, or price.
Each row's ⋮ menu has two actions:
Quick Edit… changes the product name, tax provider code, and Commission Programs without leaving the list.
Open in BigCommerce opens the product in your BigCommerce control panel.
Product Details
Select a product's name to open its details page. Open in BigCommerce sits under the product name, and the page has two sections: Product Information and Variants.
Product Information
Product name
Tax provider code (optional): a case-sensitive identifier that external tax services use to classify the product when calculating tax
Lot/serial number required when shipped: requires users to enter lot or serial number information when shipping this product
Commission Programs: sales of the product earn commission under the selected Programs. Programs apply to every variant of the product.
Select Save Changes to apply.
Variants
The Variants section lists each variant with its SKU, options, price, and inventory. For products with options, filter the list by option value at the top right. An Unlinked badge marks a variant that is not linked to an item in your accounting integration.
Expand a variant to edit it:
Catalogs: use Add to catalog… to add the variant to a Catalog, then choose its pricing rule. Select the × next to a Catalog to remove the variant from it. See Access Control for how Catalogs and pricing rules work.
QuickBooks Online (when the integration is enabled): the Linked item, plus an optional Bundle price adjustment item that corrects price differences when the linked item is a bundle.
Select Save Changes to apply. A product with a single variant shows these settings directly, without the list.
Product Variants List
Products > Variants opens the Product Variants page, which lists every variant across all products with its product name, SKU, options, price, inventory, and Catalogs. Filter by Catalog or Commission Program, for example to see everything a Catalog contains. Select a variant to open it on its product's Variants section.
For a downloadable list, run the Product Variants report under Reports. See Running Reports.
Pricing in BigCommerce
When setting up your eCommerce product catalog, you can configure both how products are priced and which customers see specific pricing in a variety of ways.
Flat Pricing
At the most basic level, you can set default product pricing for both Velocity and your storefront directly from the product information page in BigCommerce. In the Default Price field, enter the desired price for the product. Unless additional customizations or modifiers are applied, this price will display for all users in Velocity and for all customers on your storefront.
Bulk Pricing
Bulk Pricing allows you to set a quantity-based discount on products. This means that if a certain amount of products have been added to a cart, then certain discounts will be applied to that cart. These discount types include...
Discount % — Applies a percent discount on the total product price if a certain amount of products has been added to the cart.
$ Off/Unit — Reduces the fixed amount of items if a certain amount of products has been added to the cart.
$ Fixed Amount — Assigns a fixed price to a product when a quantity threshold is met.
Velocity leverages BigCommerce’s built-in controls to manage Bulk Pricing. To learn more about Bulk Pricing, reference the BigCommerce documentation here.
Customer Group Pricing
Customer Groups give you the ability to classify customers in certain groups and determine if they receive discounts on products. Additionally, Customer Groups can restrict certain customers from being able to see/order specific products from the storefront. Below are a few examples of what Customer Groups can offer...
Loyalty Group — Give specific customers a set discount on a select number (or all) products in your catalog.
Tax Exempt Group — Offer certain customers an exemption to be taxed on orders (recommended only for Government Agencies or Nonprofits).
Wholesale Group — Restrict retail customers from having access to certain categories or products.
Members-Only Group — Restrict your storefront to only customers who have registered an account.

Price Lists
Before using Price Lists, you must first make sure that you have Customer Groups configured. This is because Price Lists allow you to set advanced variant-level pricing based on Customer Groups. Once you have set up Customer Groups, you can then use Price Lists to establish overrides for those groups on the variant level (Price Lists are required to set overrides on the variant level).

Category Level Discounts
Much like Price Lists, before using Category Level Discounts, you must first make sure that you have Customer Groups configured. Once created, you may then create Category Level Discounts. These discounts allow you to set a flat discount across an entire category for a specified Customer Group.
Product Level Discounts
Similar to Category Level Discounts, Product Level Discounts allow you to set a discount on specified products for Customer Groups. Also like Category Level Discounts, you must first have a Customer Group configured before being able to assign a discount to products for that group.
Velocity leverages BigCommerce’s built-in controls to manage Category/Product Level Discounts. To learn more about Category/Product Level Discounts, reference the BigCommerce documentation here.
Product Modifiers
Product Modifiers allow customers on your storefront to customize a product or a Product Variant. For example, if your storefront sells lab coats for $100, you are able to provide an option for customers to select custom embroideries which can add an additional $20 to the item's total price. The same is true in the opposite fashion where a Product Modifier can reduce the price of the product as well.
Velocity leverages BigCommerce’s built-in controls to manage Product Modifiers. To learn more about Product Modifiers, reference the BigCommerce documentation here.
Product Variants
With Product Variants, you are able to nest multiple child products under one parent product and establish different pricing for each child product. An example of this would be if you sold different-sized products on your storefront, but didn't want each size to be priced the same. Instead of creating individual products for each size, you are able to create Product Variants of one product, set a different price for each sized product, and allow your customers to choose which size product they want while proceeding to pay for the price of that product size.
