Introduction

Leverage Velocity's Ownership and Overrides features to support complex commission structures

By Default, Velocity uses the territory maps for your Teams to assign commission for an order. However, Ownerships and Overrides will take precedence if either are set up and applicable for an order.

Ownership

In Velocity, a rep can "own" a customer, location, and or company entity per Team.

For example, in the image above, "Ryan Rep" will receive commission when:

Use the View Customers, View Locations, and View Companies buttons to switch between ownership at each entity type. Once ownership is established for a rep, commission will be automatically attributed to them for orders matching the following:

  • Order placed for owned entity (customer, location, company)

  • Order's products are commissionable within the given Team and Collection

Ownership also considers Team Structure. Not only will the "owner" receive commission, but so will anyone under them in the Team structure (e.g., their reports).

Simply put, think of Ownership as a relationship-based commission system that allows your sales representatives to directly "own" accounts.

It is also possible to do a mass import of customer ownerships. By clicking on the "Import" button, you will be able to download an example import that will provide you with a template to follow.

Overrides

Commission overrides bypass all other commission settings in Velocity and apply their own settings during commission calculation. An override has three key components:

  1. The customer, company, or location the override is for.

  2. The collection whose commission settings are being overridden.

  3. The override type that determines how commission is calculated.

The Ownership feature (above) is recommended for most relationship-based commission configurations, while Overrides are only recommended for exceptions to territories or ownerships.

Example Workflow

Imagine you use territory maps and account ownership to allocate commission for orders. Within your Team, a Commission Program is used to specify commission rates for each level of your team structure, per collection:

Example team levels and rules

  • Sales Director: 1%

    • Sales Associate: 5%

Commission overrides could be used for any of the following scenarios:

  • A particular sales associate needs to receive more or less than 5% for a customer, location, or company

  • A particular sales associate needs to receive commission for a single collection (In a scenario where Territory and/or Ownership commission includes more than one collection)

Creating Overrides

Overrides are exposed on the Customer Details & Company Details pages as App Blocks.

When a commission is the result of an override, the override type is tagged in the Order Details App Block.
