Answers to frequently asked questions

How does Velocity calculate commission for an order with multiple products?

Each line item is evaluated on its own. Velocity finds the Commission Program each product belongs to, applies that Program's rules, and creates a commission for every rep the order resolves to. An order whose products span two Programs can pay two different reps.

Do commission rules have to be set on a collection?

No. A Commission Program can include individual products as well as collections. On the Program's Commissionable Resources card, use Add collection to include everything in a Shopify collection, or Add product to include a single product.

A product that belongs to no Program earns no commission and is ignored in the calculation.

What happens if a product has no specific rule?

Each level in a Program has a Default rule that applies to every commissionable product not named by a more specific product rule. A product inside the Program with no rule of its own is commissioned at that level's Default rule.

Can I change commission on an existing order?

Commission is calculated when the order is placed. To change it afterwards you can:

  • Edit an individual commission, or add one manually, from the Commissions section.

  • Recalculate the order to rerun the calculation against your current rules.

Recalculating replaces every commission on that order, including any you added manually.

What happens if I change a commission rate?

Rate changes apply to future orders. Orders already placed keep the commission calculated at the time, unless you recalculate them.

Is shipping or tax commissionable?

No. Commission is calculated from line item totals after discounts. Shipping and tax are excluded. See Automatic Commissions for Orders.

How does Velocity decide which rep is paid?

Velocity checks overrides first, then ownerships, then the territory map, separately for each Program on the order. See How Commission Is Assigned.
