Postal Code Overrides

Learn how to override the postal codes for orders

Velocity will determine which reps receive commission based on the postal code from an order’s shipping or billing address. For exceptions to these rules, you can manually set a postal code for an order. When a postal code override is set, it takes precedence over the shipping and billing addresses.

Postal Code Override Metafield

Velocity uses Shopify metafields to support postal code overrides. After an order is created, you can enter a postal code in the metafield block within the order details.

Enabling Postal Code Overrides

To enable postal code overrides for your storefront:

  1. Navigate to the Settings page in Velocity.

  2. If postal code overrides are not enabled, you will see an option to create a custom metafield definition.

  3. Click Create Custom Metafield to generate the necessary metafield definition.

Once Create Custom Metafield is selected, a custom metafield definition will be created for your storefront using custom parameters that Velocity knows about.

Note: Do not modify the custom definition created by Velocity. Any changes may cause unexpected behavior when calculating commissions.

Once enabled, the Postal Code Override metafield will be available for orders.

Strictly Using Postal Code Overrides

When a postal code override is set for an order, it will be used instead of that order's shipping or billing address postal code.

If no override is provided, Velocity will use the order's original shipping or billing address. However, you can configure Velocity to use only postal code overrides and ignore order addresses entirely.

Enforcing Postal Code Overrides

To disable the fallback to shipping or billing addresses:

  1. Navigate to the Settings page in Velocity.

  2. If postal code overrides are enabled, a checkbox will appear.

  3. Select the checkbox to require postal code overrides exclusively.

Setting a Postal Code Override

To manually set a postal code override for an order:

  1. Open the order in Shopify.

  2. In the Metafields section, locate the Postal Code Override field.

    • If you don’t see it, click View All to find the override field.

3. Enter the postal code to use as the territory source for the commission.

4. Select Recalculate Commission to generate commissions using the postal code override.
